Privacy and information handling

Expense Tracker is a simple tool for keeping track of your expenses. Set budgets and goals, and work together with as many people as you like in shared groups, whether that's family, roommates or a trip.

It's free to use. You'll never be asked for payment, and it runs on a secure, encrypted connection.

• Your email address, so you can sign in.
• Your name and preferred currency.
• What you choose to enter: expenses, categories, budgets, goals and groups.

It doesn't ask for passwords (you sign in with a one-time code sent to your email), bank or card details, your location or your contacts. It isn't connected to any bank account.

• Your personal expenses, categories, budgets and goals are yours alone. Other people using the app can't see them.
• Groups are shared on purpose. Members of a group can see what's entered in that group (its expenses, categories, budgets and goals) and each other's names.
• If you set aside part of your main budget for a group, that amount is visible to the group. The rest stays private.
• These rules are enforced inside the database itself, not only in the screens you see.

• Everything travels over an encrypted connection (HTTPS).
• There's no password to leak or reuse. You sign in with a one-time code.
• Your information is stored with Supabase, a hosted database service. The app itself is hosted on Vercel, and sign-in emails are sent through Resend.
• No ads, and no advertising or analytics tools are built into the app.
• A small cookie keeps you signed in on your device, and a few preferences, like dark mode and language, are remembered on your device too.

You can delete your account at any time: tap your name in the app, then Delete account. It permanently removes your account and everything that belongs only to you: your profile, personal expenses, categories, budgets, goals and settings. A group where you're the only member is deleted too.

One thing to know: entries you added to a group you shared with others stay in that group, so its totals don't change. They're detached from you and show as “Former member”. If you own a group that still has other members, you'll be asked to hand it to someone else first.
